Grand Forks Growth Fund Approves Construction Easements

(KNOX) – The Grand Forks Growth Fund approved a construction easement for a building in downtown.

Grand Forks City Planner Ryan Brooks says the owners got in touch with the city about the easement.

“We were contacted, as the owners of the property, the former Herald Building, The Hive, they are looking for temporary construction easements,” Brooks told the fund.

Brooks says the reason for the easement is that the building is not in alignment with the property line.

“The building looks like its flush with the property line, but it’s one to two feet off, and to pour the forums and things for the side walk, they need to have access. So it’s just a temporary construction easement,” Brooks said.

It has been determined that small temporary construction easements are needed so that new sidewalks can be poured and construction workers can access the back side of the new sidewalks during construction.

As part of a North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT) project, North Fourth Street is going to be reconstructed between 1st Ave North and 2nd Avenue North in 2025.

“The City of Grand Forks has been working with the NDDOT as we’ve updated our streets in the downtown. We’re now onto North Fourth Street from First Avenue to Second,” Brooks said.
