Grand Forks Committee of the Whole Approves Lease for Army Reserve Center

(KNOX) -The Grand Forks Committee of the Whole approved a lease for the Army Reserve Center.

Grand Forks City Planner Ryan Brooks says the Army owns the building.

“It’s the same way the National Guard piece is as well. What they typically do throughout is they don’t own the land, just the building itself,” Brooks told the committee.

The United States Army Reserve (USAR) has leased, for a nominal fee, approximately 4.3 acres of land from the City of Grand Forks at 520 North 47th Street since 1974, when the USAR constructed the Elton W. Ringsak Reserve Center and a vehicle maintenance shop on the site.

“It’s under a dollar lease. It was put into place in 1974, it’s a 50 year lease,” said Brooks.

The land is owned by the City of Grand Forks and the improvements are owned by the federal government.

The original 50-year land lease is set to expire December 31.

The USAR has a continued need for this site and notified the City of Grand Forks of its desire to renew its lease of the land at the current terms for another 50-year term, beginning January 1, 2025.
