(KNOX) – Grand Forks City Council was updated on the next steps now that the city has secured a Small Community Air Service Grant.

Sonjia Murray of the Meehan Aviation Group, hired by the city too get more flights at Grand Forks International Airport, says that Grand Forks getting the grant was a big win.

“This is one of those moments for just a few minutes where you should be celebrating. This is a big success to be able to get one of these grants, because there weren’t too many passed out,” Murray told Grand Forks City Council via Zoom.

Grand Forks Mayor Brandon Bochenski says getting the grant will enable the airport to attract more flights to desirable locations.

“It’s just going to continue to grow our air service here. Hopefully bring some competition, and ultimately bring those prices down so people can afford to fly, and have the options to fly out of here,” Bochenski said.

The work to land more flights to and from Grand Forks International Airport begins in earnest.

“The next steps of course would be to develop, formalize a business case, and an analysis that really focuses in on the target carriers for new hub service,” Murray said.

Grand Forks will receive a one-million-dollar grant, which will allow the Grand Forks International Airport to eventually expand air service between Grand Forks and Denver.
