(KNOX) – Grand Forks Committee of the Whole approved a change order for a downtown flood infrastructure rehab project.
Assistant City Engineer Christian Danielson says the order was needed to make repairs at a flood station.
“Behind the St. John’s Block building, at Pump Station 204, we did a pavement repair in that area.” Danielson told the committee.
City staff authorized the contractor to proceed with the repair to limit the duration of the parking lot closure that was affecting adjacent residents.
“When we got to the area to do the paving repair, we identified a failing pipe at the bottom of the structure. So, there was a closure in place at the time that was affecting the residents, s we had the contractor go ahead and excavate that structure,” Danielson said.
The project’s original scope included repairing the pavement surrounding the gate well. However, after the pavement was removed, it was determined that there was a failed pipe connection approximately 12 feet deep on the structure.
The Grand Forks Committee of the Whole approved the change order in the amount of $39,714.00.
The work has been completed and the change order is needed to reimburse the contractor. The money for the change order will come from the city’s annual budget for flood protection maintenance.
The full Grand Forks City Council will have to approve the change order at its regular meeting Monday, November 4.
