(KNOX) – Governor Doug Burgum is praising firefighters for the property spared from wildfires, but says the damage tally will mount before the fires are brought under control.
As of 4 p.m. Monday, the Elk Horn fire has scoured more than 28 thousand acres of land. Fires were threatening homes in Watford City, Mandaree and Ray, where one death is confirmed.
Power is out for 330 locations in the Mountrail-Williams electric cooperative after high winds brought down power lines.
Governor Burgum says he’s seen horrific videos of herds harmed by fire, plus damage to canola and corn crops extending into central North Dakota.
