(KNOX) -It is a no-go for a study that would bring the Grand Forks Park District into a city department.
Grand Forks City Council voted at their meeting Monday evening not to move forward with a study that would look at making the Grand Fork Park District a city department.
Council member Ken Vein said that spending any amount on a study would not be worth it.
“I think it would be, to be honest with you, even at $50,000, a waste of money to even go there. I don’t see what is broke and what we’re trying to fix,” Vein said at a Grand Forks City Council meeting Monday evening.
Council Member Tricia Berg agreed with Vein.
“I would really fear that if we were trying to cut things in the future, if we had enveloped the park board into the city, we would be cutting things that they need. And I don’t want that to happen,” Berg said.
“I like the fact that the park board are specialists in their area. They run on the basis of knowing various areas within the park. It is very specialized. It is different than the rest of the city,” Vein said at the meeting.
The measure was shot down by a vote of 4 to 2 not to go ahead with the study to bring the Grand Forks Park District in as a city department.
