Costs for Planned Children’s Museum in Grand Forks Keep Going Up

(KNOX)–Recently on KNOX Radio on “Critical Thought with Noah Cheliah,” Grand Forks City Council President Dana Sande said that after bonding, the city sales tax would go toward the Turf and Aquatic facility. And that costs for the planned Children’s Museum keep going up.

“With the increase in interest rates and the increase in costs, we’ve been scratching things out of the plan now for a couple of months. And they’re still scratching,” said Sande.

Sande said that a worry for him of the Children’s Museum is the structure.

“I’m a little concerned that we’re going to get a facility that isn’t necessarily what we would want for our community.”

Grand Forks City Council Member Rebecca Osowski made her opposition to the proposed Children’s Museum early on.

“I don’t think we should be supporting them. They should be able to stand alone. And if they can’t raise the money then it shouldn’t be built,” Osowski said at a recent meeting.

At that same meeting Grand Forks City Administrator Todd Feland said that the proposal will include the Children’s Museum even though there is some opposition.

“We’re going to continue to plan for that to be integrated into this particular facility,” said Feland.

Feland said that a final plan on the Children’s Museum will be presented to Grand Forks City Council at the end of September.
