(KNOX) -Grand Forks City Council Monday evening approved a Health Strategies Fund grant for the Grand Forks Public Health Department.

“So this is not any additional funding. Nor is it any additional employees to carry out this work,” Haley Bruhn of the Grand Forks Public Health Department said before council.

“The match, it was a requirement of the applications process and so we did say that our match was going to come from our general fund,” said Bruhn.

The grant is in the amount of $94,559.00.

Bruhn said that they would use the money to address food insecurities in the Grand Forks community. “This funding would really allow us to align state priorities with local priorities around food insecurity.”

Bruhn explained to the Grand Forks City Council what food insecurity is. “Food insecurity is the social and economic condition of having limited access to have enough food for all members of a household,” Bruhn said.

“When this funding application was released we were interested because this will allow us to bring in state funds into our community to enhance some of the work around food insecurity that we already started,” said Bruhn.
