(KNOX) – Crews safely completed the removal of 29 cars of a Canadian Pacific Railroad train that derailed early Friday morning about 10 miles southeast of Carrington, North Dakota.
The cars were carrying anhydrous ammonia, sulfur and methanol, with ammonia the biggest risk. Emergency managers said 10-to-15 cars caught fire.
All the hot spots have been extinguished and a shelter in place has been lifted. Emergency response has transitioned to recovery and clean-up.
Rail traffic will resume following track safety inspections. The cause of the derailment has not been determined.
