(KNOX) – Altru Health System is one step closer to acquiring St. Alexius Hospital in Devils Lake.
The announcement came Friday morning as officials from Altru and CommonSpirit entered into a non-binding letter of intent.
U.S. Senator John Hoeven was on hand to stress the value of the letter to health care in the region.
The purchase of St. Alexius means Altru would operate two general hospitals for the first time in its history.
The hope is that St. Alexius will join Altru by the end of the year.
