By Jim Johnson May 16, 2024 | 11:40 AM

(KNOX) – UND President Andy Armacost moved a few shovels of dirt for a crabapple tree to be planted Thursday morning outside the Nistler College of Business.
The University marked Arbor Day with the planting of two crabapple trees, a Norway Spruce and a Ponderosa Pine. Several myer spruce trees were given away.
Karla Mongeon-Stewart, vice president of finance and operations, told a few dozen gathered that Arbor Day originated in Nebraska in 1872, when an estimated one million trees were planted.
She said trees remove pollutants from the air and water, release oxygen and provide shade.
Today was the fourth Arbor Day planting on the UND Campus since 2021.
