(KNOX) – The U-S Postmaster General has agreed to pause the implementation of the Mail Processing Facility Review… including proposed changes to processing in Grand Forks… until after the New Year.
North Dakota’s Congressional delegation made the request to address community concerns that the processing changes will actually improve mail delivery for customers.
This comes as part of ongoing efforts by Senator John Hoeven, Senator Kevin Cramer and Representative Kelly Armstrong to address delayed delivery of mail, packages and newspapers.
A report earlier this year suggested that original mail and packages from Grand Forks be processed in Fargo at a cost savings of $330,000 to $440,000.
The price of a First Class postage stamp goes up another nickel on July 14.
The United States Postal Service announced the 73 cents per stamp charge about a week ago.
The price increase comes as changes continue to mailing and shipping.
The USPS said the “price adjustments are needed to achieve the financial stability.”
