Groundbreaking ceremonies were held today (Wednesday) for the new Valley Middle School in Grand Forks.
The cost of construction is set at around $53 million dollars – some $2 million under budget.
Prior to the ceremonial shovels in the ground Superintendent Terry Brenner thanked nearby residents in advance for the 18 months of construction saying it will add value to the neighborhood.
School Board President Amber Flynn says all the good things happening in the current building now can be transitioned into the new site. Flynn says the north end of Grand Forks has been underserved and this project will help close the narrative.
Voters approved a $79 million dollar referendum last May – with funds earmarked for the new school…a new central kitchen…and safety improvements throughout the district.
Construction on the kitchen project adjacent to the Mark Sanford Education Center is well underway.
The new Valley Middle School is expected to be completed by the winter of 2025.
