(KNOX) – Candidates had until 4 p.m. Monday to file for city and state elections during the June Primary.
Scott Nelson and Mary Adams are seeking election to the North Dakota House of Representatives in District 18.
Nelson is a retired Teamster following a 45-year career in wholesale and retail sales. Adams is seeking re-election to the House after previously representing District 43 from 2018 to 2022.
Adams and Nelson were endorsed by the District 18 Democratic-NPL party. Current District 18 Representative Corey Mock will not to seek re-election.
Marie Stewart announced her candidacy for a position on the Grand Forks City Council. Stewart graduated from the licensed practical nursing program at Northland Community and Technical College, earning an associate’s degree in applied science. Additionally, Stewart holds certificates in basic coding and grant writing.
Political and human rights advocate Roland Riemers has filed petitions with the North Dakota Secretary of State to become a candidate for U.S. Representative in the June Primary. Riemers will face off with Trygve Hammer, the endorsed Democratic-NPL candidate.
Weeks after having few candidates to run, Portland, North Dakota had seven candidates file for the June Primary before Monday’s 4 p.m. deadline.
Joanna Nielsen will run for mayor, with Sven Mickels stepping aside after 28 years.
Portland City Council candidates include incumbent Craig Klabo, Justin Burley, David Groven and Jeff Stevens.
Ladonna Nelson and Terry Tabor will run for the Portland Park Board.
