Region under fire danger risk through this weekend

(KNOX) – Minnesota’s five northwest counties have been added to the burning restrictions list of the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.
Kittson, Lake of the Woods, Marshall, Pennington and Roseau counties will not be issued DNR permits for open burning of brush and yard waste until further notice.
As warm and dry weather spreads throughout the state, the burning of vegetative debris is the number one cause of wildfires in Minnesota and burning restrictions help reduce wildfire risk.
Restrictions remain in place for Becker, Beltrami, Clay, Clearwater, Hubbard, Mahnomen, Norman, Polk and Red Lake counties among others.
Due to high wildfire potential this spring, people should be careful with anything that can cause a spark, especially on dry, windy days.
If a fire rekindles or escapes, the person who set it is liable for any damage caused, as well as for wildfire suppression costs.
In North Dakota, Eddy, Nelson, Griggs and Barnes counties are included in a Red Flag warning for critical fire weather conditions. The National Weather Service says counties along the Red River Valley will likely be added to that warning this weekend.
