Efforts to land additional air service at the Grand Forks Airport is ready to take the next step.
The Airport Commission has agreed to a one year contract with the air service consulting firm of Mead & Hunt. Airport Executive Director Ryan Reisinger says the scope of the annual contract will be expanded as the GFK eyes a potential federal grant through the Small Community Air Service Program. The grant could help lure a potential United Airlines route between Grand Forks and Denver. The cost of the 2024 agreement will exceed $78,000 dollars.
The consultant will also help provide data for the city backed Air Service Expansion Committee. The group will interview two national firms on Monday to assist in boosting air service in Grand Forks.
Data suggests the local airport is only capturing 47% of potential travelers – leaving 53% to head elsewhere to hop a flight.
