Valley Middle transportation study

A transportation study that focuses on the redevelopment of the Valley Middle School site offers a glimpse into future traffic patterns.

One major change is that the new build will double on-site parking and expand the drop off/pickup area for students.

The analysis contains a series of recommendations including: Extending the “no parking” along the entire north side of 5th Avenue North between North 20th Street and North 23rd….relocating a flashing beacon to University Avenue and North 23rd….and restricting parking between 7:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on the north side of North 21st…22nd…and 23rd Street from Monday through Friday.

Assistant City Engineer David Kuhrenko says another talking point is bike lanes.  “Bike lanes along North 20th Street and University Avenue.  These were recommendations that were identified in the MPO/Bike Ped plan.  We did have some input during that process and there was some pushback from residents on University Avenue.”

City staff are planning to hold a public meeting on the plan to solicit input on the overall plan.
