Without discussion the Grand Forks Planning and Zoning Commission approved placing a four by eight foot mural on the side of the Valley Middle School.
In June of last year the city council amended its code to allow murals in residential neighborhoods on a case by case basis.
School officials have stressed that the mural will be designed by professional artists and students. The mural will be on a separate board – not the building itself. The mural may or may not be transferred to the new Valley campus.
The mural will be located on the south side of the building near the front to the school.
The city council will review the application later this month.
