Firefighters…paramedics…family…and friends packed a Minnesota church for a memorial service today (Wednesday) for three first responders who were gunned down in the line of duty. They were killed in Burnsville (MN) earlier this month while responding to a report of a domestic incident.
Burnsville Mayor Elizabeth Kautz told those in attendance the community is still in mourning. “We are grateful for the unwavering support received from our community. The kind words give us strength and hope for the days to come.”
Police Chief Tonya Schwartz says she still struggles to make sense of the shooting. Schwartz says the three fallen heroes were doing what they were called to do.
The service was held at the nondenominational Grace Church – one of the largest in the Minneapolis area.
A procession of public safety vehicles left the Eden Prairie church after the service to Burnsville, where it will pass a fire station, police headquarters and the Burnsville church in a show of respect.
