Grand Forks health officials will continue to offer Hepatitis A vaccine in a pair of walk-in clinics this week after a food service worker tested positive. The individual was employed by the UND Memorial Union Chick-fil-A between mid-January and February 7th.
A Sunday vaccine clinic held on campus drew a crowd of about 100 — 38 individuals received a shot. Tiffany Boespflug of Grand Forks Public Health says they weren’t sure how many people would show up.
Hepatitis A is part of the recommended childhood vaccines. Boespflug says the department can help individuals who are unsure whether they have been vaccinated or not.
It can take about 15 to 50 days (average is one month) after being exposed to Hepatitis A to develop symptoms. Hepatitis A symptoms generally last about two months.
The worker who tested positive was possibly exposed following out-of-state travel.
