MN lawmaker pitches more school lunch time

By Doug Barrett Feb 15, 2024 | 8:49 AM

A bill making its way through the Minnesota legislature would mandate that students have at least 15 minutes to eat their lunch at school.

Supporters say with more students eating breakfast and lunch at school the lines for the free meal program are getting longer.

Bill sponsor Representative Sydney Jordan says the 15 minutes would start after the student has received their lunch and does not include walking to and from the cafeteria or standing in line.

Jordan says the 15 minutes is simply a base time, and she encouraged school districts to give students even more time to eat lunch.
