A security guard and Democrat is running for governor in North Dakota. Travis Hipsher ran unsuccessfully in 2022 for a state Senate seat. He won about 24% of the vote. Republican Rep. Kelly Armstrong, North Dakota’s long U.S. House member, also is running for governor to succeed Gov. Doug Burgum, who said last week he is not seeking a third term. Democrats have not won a statewide election in North Dakota since 2012. Republicans have held the governor’s office since 1992.
