A Willmar (MN) man who was tased by law enforcement and died has been identified as 75 year old Michael Yanacheak. The Midwest Medical Examiner released the name today (Wednesday) – but not the cause of death.
The incident occurred Monday as two Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s deputies and two Willmar Police officers went to Yanacheak’s apartment to perform a court ordered eviction. After about an hour the apartment manager pried open the door and law enforcement entered. Authorities say Yanacheak picked up a kitchen knife and walked towards the deputies. That’s when Deputy Riley Kampsen deployed his Taser. Yanacheak later died at a hospital.
Kampsen and two Willmar police officers were all wearing body cameras. A knife was recovered at the scene. The Minnesota BCA is running the investigation.
