ND health officials push radon testing

By Doug Barrett Jan 30, 2024 | 7:59 AM

North Dakota health officials have been using the month of January to help spread the word about testing homes for radon gas.

Radon is a cancer-causing naturally occurring radioactive gas that you can’t see or smell but it can be harmful at high concentrations. It’s estimated that 63% of North Dakota homes have elevated levels above the EPA’s action level.

North Dakota Radon Program Coordinator Justin Otto says the state has a limited number of free test kits to give away – or you can buy them at the retail level…

Radon-related illness claims more than 21,000 lives in the United States annually.
