So far so good when it comes to flooding this spring. The National Weather Service is out with the first Spring Flood Outlook for the Red River Valley.
Amanda Lee is the hydrologist with the NWS office in Grand Forks. Lee says late winter and early spring precipitation – along with the timing of the thaw for remaining snowpack – will be the most important risk factors moving forward.
Right now the 50-50 mark for the “Red” in Grand Forks calls for a crest at around 31.1 feet. Flood stage is 28.
