The Grand Forks council is poised to take a leap into fixing Riverside Pool. The council gave preliminary approval this week to a design agreement with EAPC at a cost of upwards of $400,000 dollars.
Leaky pipes under the 1941 swimming hole plus concrete walls that are getting weaker by the year could require a full rebuild. Water Works Director Melanie Parvey says there’s no quick fix. “Remove the basin…remove the walls…repair the underground pipes.”
Parvey says the cost of the repairs is getting pricey as well. “We have a current estimate for the pool rebuild at $4.1 million but the contract also says $5 million because of some unknowns.”
Parvey says a potential grant through the Land and Water Conversation Fund could cover 50% of the bill. The grant application opens in the spring of 2025.
Around 65-hundred patrons took a dip in the pool last year.
