COF makes changes at the top

The board of directors at Circle of Friends has eliminated its CEO position. The move along with closure of the adoption center on South Washington is designed to help offset a growing budget problem for the animal shelter.

The board took the steps last night (Wednesday) but did not act on a proposed impound contract for service with the city for 2024. That contract was subject of a lengthy discussion at Monday’s Grand Forks council meeting.

Mayor Brandon Bochenski says it might be time for an RFP – or a request for proposal – to see if another veterinary provider is interested in the contract. On KNOX Radio this week the mayor says COF could still be part of the plan moving forward.  “We would love to continue to work with Circle of Friends as it’s been a 40 year relationship.  Things have changed that have left them in the position they are in.  Again…we have to worry about what’s in the interest of the city of Grand Forks.”

The proposed contract calls for the city to pay COF $198,625 dollars in 2024 with a cap of no more than $250 dollars for care per animal without prior authorization.
