(KNOX) – Nobody wants the Macy’s building in Columbia Mall. At least, no one wants to pay the bank’s asking price
The chain store closed in Columbia Mall in 2017. An auction was for the larger-than-average property was held Tuesday morning inside the Grand Forks County Courthouse.
First International Bank and Trust placed the opening bid at $1,391,371.
When Corporal Chris Hutton opened the floor to more bids, he was greeted with silence from more than a dozen people seated inside the courtroom.
Last May, plans to move the Riverside Christian School into the Macy’s building were scrapped…when multiple tenants in Columbia Mall would not approve an amended operating agreement.,
Nationally, Macy’s is rejecting a $5.8 billion takeover offer from investment firms Arkhouse Management and Brigade Capital Management, saying they didn’t provide a viable financing plan.
