Xcel Energy electric customers in North Dakota will be getting something new over the course of the coming year – smart meters.
Installation of the high tech meters began this week in the Fargo and West Fargo area. Eventually all 100,000 customers will receive the new devices.
Smart meters will give customers near real-time energy use data through the company’s My Account app, or via xcelenergy.com.
Customers will also have access to programs and services that will help them better understand their energy usage and how to improve efficiency and savings.
