By Doug Barrett Jan 11, 2024 | 7:52 AM

East Grand Forks is ready to advance plans and specs to create a Quiet Zone within the city. The goal is to silence train horns as they travel through town.

The city has been working with BNSF on easements…construction…and closure agreements. One of the larger projects is the removal of the street crossing at 3rd Street NW. The cost of the project is estimated at some $840,000 dollars.

Funding would be covered by a combination of sources from BNSF…. MNDOT…State Aid Construction dollars…and local monies. The city’s share of the project is estimated at roughly $448,470 dollars.

East Grand Forks is targeting a bid date of February 7th. The construction would take place between June and September. Signals and gates may not arrive until later in the fall.
