The first public library ever constructed in North Dakota is closing….but it’s temporary.
Mayville Public Library director Margaret Rice has been granted six weeks of medical leave.
As a city employee…she can take up to 12 weeks under the Family Medical Leave Act.
Volunteers on social media have been pledging to fill library hours… but auditor Gail Olstad says the city and the Mayville Public Library Board must coordinate a plan to find volunteers with library experience.
Rice’s medical leave comes as the library has learned it has been approved for a North Dakota Historic Preservation Grant for roof repair and upgrades to heating, ventilation and air conditioning.
The City of Mayville has funds to match the 30-thousand dollar grant.
