One man is dead and another individual was injured when an ATV crashed through the ice on Pike Bay. The Cass County Sheriff’s Department responded to the scene around 11:15 Friday morning. Witnesses who were fishing in the area pulled the victim from the water and started lifesaving measures. The 82 year old Bemidji man was transported to the Cass Lake Indian Services Hospital where he was pronounced dead. A second person on the ATV was also in the water and was treated on scene. Sheriff Bryan Welk says ice conditions on Pike Bay and several other lakes are still unsafe. Welk says it’s extremely important to check ahead when traveling on the ice.
