GF/EGF Chamber opposes property tax petition

By Jim Johnson Jan 4, 2024 | 1:20 PM

The GF/EGF Chamber has teamed up with the Greater North Dakota Chamber (GNDC) and other state organizations to express strong opposition to the property tax petition currently in circulation… and aimed at amending the North Dakota Constitution.

Arik Spencer, President and chief executive of GNDC, says the proposed initiated measure will restrict political subdivisions’ authority to levy property taxes.
According to the proposal, starting in 2025, the state would be mandated to provide replacement payments at 2024 levels indefinitely.
The petition requires 31,164 signatures… and must be submitted before February 12 to be considered for the June Primary Election… or by June 29 to be on the General Election ballot in November.
