Minot Police ID shooting victim (Update)

Authorities say a 41-year-old man killed in a Sunday shooting in Minot was a North Dakota National Guard airman.

According to Minot police and the state National Guard… Nicholas VanPelt was found dead in his apartment around 8:45 p.m.

The Georgia native joined the Air Force in 2001…then became a member of the State Air National Guard in 2009, where he served with the 219th Security Forces Squadron at the Minot Air Base.

Van Pelt served as a Ward County Sheriff’s Deputy until May of this year, when he transitioned to serving full-time with the 219th.

Van Pelt is survived by his three children and parents.

Meanwhile, police say an unidentified 40-year old woman involved in the shooting was transported to a Minot hospital with unknown injuries.

Thirty-nine-year-old Daniel Breijo of Surrey has been arrested on charges of murder and attempted murder.

Police say Breijo and the victims were known to each other.
