Grand Forks County Commissioners determined the fate of two county bridges during their Tuesday meeting.
The Midway Bridge is the only structure of a particular style that the North Dakota Department of Transportation wants to preserve.
County engineer Nick West says the D-O-T plans to salvage the existing abutments and fit the bridge with new metal beams and a timber deckā¦saving the county substantial money.
The salvaged bridge will be relocated to a private residence in Walsh County.
The Ost Volley Bridge had been approved to be demolished, but the highway department has negotiated a plan that would preserve THAT bridge, but would reduce its historical significance. An 84-inch concrete culvert is ready to install at the site.
Commissioners moved separately to approve and have the chairman sign both D-O-T documents.
