A small fire at the Grand Forks County Correctional Center early this morning (Tuesday). Fire personnel were sent to the jail just after 2:00 a.m. on a report of flames and smoke in the laundry room.
When crews arrived they found clothes in a dryer had caught fire and the sprinkler system had been activated. Firefighters quickly extinguished the remaining flames and vented the building of smoke.
One inmate was transported to Altru Hospital with unknown injuries. The cause is under investigation.
A total of five engines…one aerial truck…a command vehicle…and twenty personnel responded to the call.
