Minnesota’s State Emblems committee selected a design for a new state seal today (Tuesday).
The commission voted to eliminate four of five finalists from consideration and focus attention on a design that features a loon over a Minnesota lake.
Without dissent the panel advanced the design subject to modifications and editing. Those include discussions about removing the year of statehood…language…adding stars…and the color of the loon’s eye.
There are six state flag finalists still on the drawing board. The 13 member panel faces a January 1st deadline to submit a final report to the legislature and governor. The commission has two more meetings scheduled before the end of the year.
