GF Air Service Expansion Committee to take next step

By Doug Barrett Dec 5, 2023 | 8:22 AM

A committee charged with expanding air service at the Grand Forks Airport will ask local business groups to fly local. The panel met for a second time on Monday and noted that one of the measuring tools for boosting air service is to make sure current seats are filled.

Mayor Brandon Bochenski says in addition to the “fly local” campaign the city may look to hire a consultant to help develop a plan for luring more flights and carriers to the GFK.  “In Q1 we will look to hire an air expansion expert.  So we well go through the RFQ process to ultimately guide us in the direction of having the best path forward.  We’ve already identified the need.”

One of the target areas for service is a western hub. Data suggests Grand Forks is only capturing 47% of potential travelers – leaving 53% to head elsewhere to hop a flight.

The committee is comprised of business leaders…airport authority members…and GFAFB personnel.
