Central HS pool reboot still in question

The future of the Central High School pool will be back before the Grand Forks School Board next month.

The Finance Committee waded through the pros and cons this week of getting the shuttered pool back up and running in time for the next school year.  The clock is ticking with the scheduled closure of the Hyslop Sports Center in 2024.

The most cost-effective solution includes filling the pool this spring to test the mechanical equipment and purchasing a liner to reduce moisture that is damaging the building.  The price is still under review.

A longer 3 to 5 year “buy-time” fix as presented to the Facilities Committee of the Whole in October would cost $500,000 to $1 million dollars.  A long term solution could cost upwards of $9 million dollars.

If the test this spring does not go well high school swim teams may have to travel to other locations for practice and meets.

The district is hoping to buy some time until plans are finalized for an indoor sports and aquatics facility in Grand Forks.

The full board will discuss the pool issue on December 11th.
