GF School Data and Dismissal Actions

One-third of students in the Grand Forks School District qualified for free or reduced price meals during the 2022-23 school year. That was one of many data pieces presented to the school board last night (Monday) as part of an annual report.

The numbers also reveal that 1,465 students were on an individual education plan – or IEP last year. Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Education Matt Bakke says that’s a six-percent increase over the decade – and a number that will likely continue to climb.  “That adds staffing and provides additional instruction for those students.  That’s a heavy lift when compared across the board.”

The data also suggests while ACT Test scores were down slightly last year – the district remains above state and national averages.

The Grand Forks School Board also got the ball rolling for the possible mid-year firing of a Head Start instructor. Superintendent Terry Brenner is recommending the teacher be released on the grounds of insubordination and conduct unbecoming the position. Specific reasons behind the dismissal were not discussed. The board voted nine-zero to request the Office of Administrative Hearings set a date for the discharge proceedings.
