MCI’s Pembina bus plant to remain open

Motor Coach Industries’ (MCI) will continue operations at its facility in Pembina (ND).

U.S. Senator John Hoeven says he was informed of the move by the parent company NFI Group. The company announced the plans to close the facility earlier this year in a cost cutting move. The factory has operated since 1963.

Hoeven says he’s pleased that MCI has listened to calls to remain in North Dakota.

Governor Doug Burgum called it a “fantastic” development. Company leadership informed the governor that due to strong product demand, including for electric motor coaches, the company now sees an opportunity to continue operations at the plant.

ND Sen. Kevin Cramer: Reversing the previously-planned closure of the MCI plant is a significant win for the Pembina area. I am grateful the NFI Group recognized the value we provide in North Dakota and reconsidered their decision.”

NFI also has New Flyer bus plants in Crookston and St. Cloud.
