The North Country Food Bank in East Grand Forks is holding a celebration this (Thu) afternoon.
The Food Bank is marking its 40th anniversary with an open house, running from 4:00 to 6:00 PM.
“Through 40 years, we’ve distributed enough pounds for more than 100-million meals,” said Kristen Duckstad, the Food Bank’s finance director. “We want to thank people for the generous donations they give. Without them, we wouldn’t be able to do what we do.”
The Food Bank, which serves 21 counties and more than 220 agencies in northwest Minnesota, including food shelves, soup kitchens and emergency shelters.
Duckstad says demand has gone up, especially in the last year or so.
“We also last year kind of ramped up ‘mobile drops,’ so we basically drive one of our trucks filled with different products such as frozen chicken, produce or whatever, and we go into communities and serve directly to people there, as well, to kind of help meet some of these demands that some of the food shelves are seeing.”
The Food Bank is located at 1011 11th Avenue Northeast.
