Walz travels to Thief River Falls

By Doug Barrett Oct 18, 2023 | 8:24 AM

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz traveled to northwest Minnesota on Tuesday to promote his child care workforce development plan.

The stop in Thief River Falls included a visit to DigiKey to see the company’s recent 2.2 million square foot expansion – as well as an airport construction project.

The $316 million workforce program is designed to bolster wages and benefits for Minnesota child care providers and early educators. Walz has called child care a work force issue.

The infrastructure package signed into law by the governor included $3 million for a new cargo hangar at the Thief River Falls Regional Airport. The new building is expected to be complete in the summer of 2024.
