GFPD looks into potential addiction scam

A potential scam that surfaced a couple of weeks ago involving local treatment and help agencies appears to have subsided – for now.

Under the scenario a “recruiter” would offer plane tickets to clients promising addiction services at a location in California. The fear is that it was a front for trafficking – not treatment.

ShareHouse Recovery went public and posted a notice about the scam on its social media sites on Wednesday. Sharehouse operates in Grand Forks and Fargo.

Grand Forks Police say the organization in question left town about two weeks ago. The GFPD says while the there was nothing that could be tied to human trafficking or any other crime the premise warranted concern.
