Some members of a West Fargo Catholic Church tour group — who were in Israel when war broke out — are back home after a long journey from the Middle East.
They made their way through Jordan, Chicago, the Twin Cities and Rochester (MN) before arriving in Fargo early Thursday morning.
Father Phil Ackerman of Holy Cross Church led an 80-member group on a tour that was interrupted when Hamas-led terrorists attacked Israel on Saturday.
Though the group was miles away from combat, Ackerman says the experience was significant.
“We see the newscasts,” Ackerman said. “We see the unrest all over the world, and we, of course, do so with care and compassion. But it just gives us a special understanding of what people are actually going through. So, it’s really a great lesson for us.”
Other members of the group have also booked flights home and are expected to arrive in the coming days.
