The cost of the proposed Red River Valley Water Supply Project was up for discussion at a meeting of the Lake Aagassiz Water Authority on Wednesday. U.S. Senator John Hoeven invited Bureau of Reclamation Commissioner Camille Touton to the table in an effort to help secure federal funding for the project that would bring Missouri River Water to the Red River Valley in times of drought.
The price-tag for the pipeline is expected to exceed $1.1 billion dollars. Right now the funding would be financed through the State…Garrison Diversion…and local stakeholders. An earlier projection put the Grand Forks share at $30 million.
Hoeven says obtaining support is a key component of the plan to make it a federal…state…and local partnership.
Commissioner Touton has committed to continue working to resolve the issue.
