Do you have a suggestion for a new Minnesota state flag or seal? Residents are encouraged to send those ideas to the State Emblems Redesign Commission.
The current seal depicts a Native American riding off into the sunset while a white settler plows his field with his rifle leaning on a nearby stump.
The Commission has established a website where residents can submit entries. Minnesota Historical Society’s David Kelliher is an administrative staff member to the 13 member commission. “The great news is that we have received several dozen…over 50 so far.”
Kelliher says it’s important that only original ideas be submitted to the website.
The deadline is October 30, 2023.
Minnesotans can submit ideas at mnhs.org/serc.
