Construction on the $27 million dollar Career Impact Academy in Grand Forks  is officially underway.

State and local leaders participated in a ceremonial groundbreaking this afternoon for the building that will offer programs to both high school and adult learners.  Around $11 million dollars was raised locally for the project.

Grand Forks School Superintendent Terry Brenner called it a watershed day for the community.

Mayor Brandon Bochenski says the CIA will offer training for the types of jobs that helped build this country.

Executive Director of CTE and Technology Eric Ripley says there is a renewed interest in the trades.  “The combination of student tuition debt and the availability of jobs have helped people understand that there are lots of options for students after high school and they don’t all have to be a four year degree.”

The CIA is located near Gateway Drive and North 42nd Street.  Construction is expected to be completed by the summer of 2025.
