The East Grand Forks council appears to be on board with allowing a mural to be painted on the side of a downtown building. The Downtown Development Association is promoting the idea as a way to increase pedestrian activity and bring back the aesthetics of a downtown decades ago.
East Grand Forks Community Development Director Nancy Ellis says the city doesn’t have a mural ordinance on the books. “I don’t foresee a need for one. I see it as public art and to come before the city council every time someone wants to do something like this.”
The DDA’s Jill Proctor says they are eyeing a site on a wall of the Riverwalk Center. “Give this to artists and have them come back with their proposals and renderings.”
No one spoke out against the idea at this week’s council work session.
