Minneapolis & Red Lake land deal

By Doug Barrett Sep 22, 2023 | 10:21 AM

Minneapolis is transferring a couple of parcels of land back to members of the Red Lake Nation for a cultural and addiction treatment center.

The downtown site has been vacant for over a decade and will serve Indigenous people living in the city.

City leaders and Red Lake Nation officials announced the sale this week for $1 each.
Mayor Jacob Frey called it a win-win partnership.

Cheri Goodwin of the Red Lake Nation says specific plans are still a work in progress and renovation of an existing building should be completed beforeĀ  the end of the year.

The agreement still needs approval by the Minneapolis City Council in October.
